RANDOLPH D. PHIFER

A founding member and shareholder of the firm, Mr. Phifer also serves as the firm's managing director. Mr. Phifer's practice focuses in the areas of real estate, probate and estate planning, and life insurance. Over the past 15 years Mr. Phifer has frequently served as a receiver for commercial and residential properties and, as such, has extensive experience in working with management companies to manage both single and multiple-unit properties. Recently, he acted as receiver for a 100-unit commercial complex and for a residential complex with over 350 units scattered over six non-contiguous sites in Detroit Michigan. The 100-unit facility included many small business operators and a flea market. The 350-unit project dealt with many urban concerns such as vandalism, theft, fires, and deferred maintenance. Mr. Phifer used his expertise to favorably settle several insurance claims that arose during his tenure as receiver.

Mr. Phifer has wide-ranging litigation experiences which include expertise in the federal arena culminating in several seminal cases published in federal reporters. In addition to his firm responsibilities, he is a certified mediator in Wayne County and a lecturer for the American Bar Association and various community organizations. As a member of the American Bar Association, Mr. Phifer has presented on life insurance and law office management issues.

He served as a vice chairman of the ABA's Life Insurance Subcommittee and as the associate editor for the ABA's Tort & Insurance Law Journal. As an Adjunct Professor at the University of Detroit School of Law, Mr. Phifer gave instruction in legal writing and research. He has also conducted seminars and classes in various aspects of insurance law. Mr. Phifer is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and the University of Detroit School of Law. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1975.
